Detective Brent Phillips-TRAP

Detective Brent Phillips, assigned to the Taskforce for Regional Auto Theft Prevention (TRAP), conducted a thorough investigation that led to the identification of the primary suspect in a construction theft ring operating throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

A total of seven victims were identified during the course of his investigation, as well as a total loss exceeding $220,000,00 in rental equipment.

As a result of the investigation, a search warrant was executed in Aug 2024. During this search, two stolen pieces of construction equipment were found, leading to an arrest for operating a “Chop Shop” and receiving stolen property. The accused confessed to stealing five Bobcats and trailers and committing thefts in Kern and San Bernardino Counties.

Deputy District Attorney Robin Allen reviewed the case and filed (10) felony counts for the theft of the Bobcats, as well as one count for owning or operating a chop shop. The recommended bail was set at $325,000. Gonzalez has been in custody since his arrest and is expected to plead guilty.

Congratulations, Detective Brent Phillips, for all your hard work as this year’s recipient of the IAATI Heavy Equipment Award
