Detective Rob Prentice-Waterloo Regional Police (BEVT)

Detective Rob Prentice is a member of the Waterloo Regional Police Break and Enter Vehicle Theft team (BEVT) in Ontario, Canada. More specifically, he is the Auto Theft Coordinator for the service for a population of 600,000 residents. Rob has been extremely dedicated to investigating criminal organizations involved in the theft and exportation of stolen motor vehicles overseas. 2024 was a busy year for Rob and his team. He was the lead investigator for several large projects all while still investigating smaller incidents. The following is a review of his larger investigations:

At the beginning of 2024, Rob concluded Project Longreach, where he arrested and charged seven males who were linked to the theft of 65 luxury motor vehicles across Ontario, Canada. Currently, these males are before the courts regarding organized crime charges.

In August 2024, Rob was the lead for Project Oakland Hills. Five men were identified in a group that were linked to dozens of stolen luxury vehicles. During the investigation Rob and his team recovered 18 stolen vehicles. The males were all arrested by Rob in August after they committed a Pharmacy Robbery using one of the stolen vehicles.

In December 2024, Rob was the lead investigator for Project Cherry Hill. This involved a chop shop that was located in Ayr, Ontario. Rob worked with his team and recovered 52 stolen vehicles in various states of dismemberment. A total of seven males were arrested and charged in this investigation. These males are also facing organized crime charges.

Finally, at the end of December 2024 Rob was the lead investigator for Project Highlands. Two males and a female were arrested operating a transport hub just outside of Hamilton, Ontario. Rob recovered a total of 28 stolen luxury vehicles inside a large garage which was newly built just for this criminal organization.

Rob has been an integral part of auto theft investigations in southwestern Ontario and continues to advocate manufactures for increased security. He presents to the public regarding crime prevention and trains police officers regarding auto theft. In the past year Rob and his team recovered 160 luxury vehicles destine for exportation overseas. The estimated total recovery is worth 11.2 million dollars.
