The theft and export of stolen vehicles from Canada continues to be a serious challenge for the insurance industry, the police services, and Canadians in general. Équité was formed by the insurance industry as a national, independent organization with a vision to be world-class at reducing and preventing insurance fraud and crime and its impacts on honest, hardworking Canadians. Additionally, Équité provides financial and logistical support to the federal, provincial and municipal governments, without which these port operations would not be possible. Through investigative expertise, hard work, and solid collaboration, Équité in 2021 delivered incredible success. For the first time in the history of the Investigative Services Division, or ISD, 1193 vehicles were recovered which represents a conservative black book value of $45.6 million. These recoveries were made specifically at the ports of Montreal, Halifax and Saint John and do not include other recoveries of stolen vehicles throughout Canada. Statistics of 2017-2021 demonstrate the significance of this achievement as numbers of vehicles recovered grew steadily from 330, 349, 564, 776 to an astonishing 1193.
