Erik Velez

Erik N. Velez is a Senior Special Investigator at Travelers Insurance with nearly three decades of experience in insurance fraud investigation, forensic vehicle examination, and auto theft investigation. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies, Erik has built a distinguished career spanning multiple major carriers— developing deep expertise in complex investigations involving financial records analysis, recorded statements, surveillance, and forensic vehicle examinations. He has also served in leadership roles including Regional Lead Investigator and Underwriting Fraud Manager, where he spearheaded fraud awareness training and risk analysis programs at a national level.

Beyond his investigative work, Erik is a recognized leader in the auto theft investigation community, currently serving as President of the Colorado Auto Theft Investigators Association (CATI) and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Western States Regional Chapter of IAATI (WRC). In addition, he is an Associate Board Member of Rocky Mountain Association of Special Investigations Units (RMASIU). He maintains active affiliations with the IAATI and IASIU and has coordinated statewide auto theft training for both law enforcement and civilian investigators. His commitment to service extends beyond the industry — Erik is a credentialed New Jersey State Certified Firefighter III and Fire Inspector, a former Lieutenant with the Wood-Ridge Fire Department and Volunteer First Responder, and an Eagle Scout, reflecting a lifelong dedication to protecting his community.
