Vince Lane - Datatag ID Ltd
Vince is currently one of Datatags Police Liaison and training officers. He was originally a Police Officer for Hampshire Police where he quickly developed his passion for vehicle crime and in particular plant and agricultural machinery.
Vince left the Police to join Datatag and uses his vast knowledge and experience to train officers from all over the UK and further afield. Vince has been a key member in the creation of Datatags RAPID app, a web-based application designed to enhance security and identification of construction and agricultural machinery. In basic terms it allows officers to use their smart phones when out on patrol to access over six hundred and fifty thousand assets to check if stolen.
Vince has been able to enhance the app by adding a vast library of videos and photos of common plant and agricultural machinery. This has been extremely useful for officers out on ground to allow them to locate identification numbers. It also has the added benefit of having a genuine reference for comparison to establish if the item is rung. As I'm sure you can appreciate trying to find the ID on a quad bike that's been out in a muddy field isn't easy, especially when the locations vary vastly between make model and age.
Vince continues to support Police operations including warrants and roadside stop sites, and always happy to take a call to support officers.
His dedication goes above and beyond and for this reason he is this year's worthy recipient of the Peter Leigh award.
